LUCAS COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL

Lucas County Arts Council offers multi-cultural events

The Lucas County Arts Council sponsors an eclectic mixture of annual programs for its patrons and the general public. In addition to the annual Fall Arts Festival, the Council sponsors an "Iowa Author's Day. Last year the event featured Donald Harstad, a crime drama writer.

An inaugural model railroad event was sponsored last year that has led to an annual swap meet and show held in October. At the exhibit was a working, model railroad with multiple trains running over 40 feet of track through elaborate landscapes.

The Freight House, restored, owned, and maintained by the Council, is available to the public for use in celebrations, meetings, reunions, and other events. Multi-media equipment is available for use in showing memory videos and related.

The Council sponsored a program for fifth grade students that was a lesson on the historic architectural significance of the old buildings on the town square. Following the school visit, the Council sponsored a walk around the square, open to the general public, to discuss the different architectural styles of the buildings.

The Arts Council continues to provide the styrofoam gliders painted by fifth grade students that are presented free to all children who attend the annual Chariton Municipal Airport Fly-In breakfast and related events held each June.

In 2011, the Council co-sponsored a Renaissance event and an Evening with Daniel Sperry, his music, poetry, and storytelling.
